As You Like It Safaris

Message from the Director

“As You Like It” was a name I chose with careful deliberation. The Shakespearean play title emulates all that I intended in the Vivien Prince of As You Like It Safarisbeginning, and it continues to be proven with each and every safari. It is class, it is attention to detail, it is putting your money back into the quality of your safari.  Our clients have their, “Midsummer Night’s dream,” and can remain relaxed and confident that the vehicle is properly maintained, serviced, insured, and all relevant licences have been complied with.
The diligence of George in the office at the preparation stage, and Kamara on Safari, both hand-picked and trained by me to the highest standards, makes (with me), a small but strong kingdom which you will enter. One that “King John,” “Richard III,” even “King Lear,” would indeed be proud.  With the team, the subjects, which comprise “As You Like It,” there will be “Much Ado about Nothing,” and “No Comedy of Errors.”  As with “Romeo and Juliet,” a guitar player may sing by the camp fire, as the more restless can engage in a game of “Othello.”  Surely, you cannot resist “The Winters Tale,” by the camp fire, and the surprise of the “Twelfth Night?”

Confirmed Ready-to-go Safaris for 2010.
Jump on board now.  There are THREE SAFARIS below with space available. These will be greatest opportunities to come and be on safari in safe hands, with the very best!  Don’t miss the third safari of Catch the Wind Tours, with Ihla Crowley which includes 10 Days in Kenya and five other Countries. Ihla Crowley runs immensely popular trips, and trust me, she beats out every single incey, wincey, tiny little detail in her preparation, and before offering the itinerary to the public. When we team up, it is unbeatable. Enquire for the price of Kenya only, if you cannot do the whole safari (which would be even better).

Atmospheric conditions and Plains

Elephants in Samburu National ReserveWe received some good rain through December and the new-year and the first couple of weeks of January, a total of about 64mm. The remainder of the month has been hot and dry but the country is looking green and beautiful.  We are still getting showers!
The Mara River increased dramatically rising to half way up its banks, making life difficult for the crocodiles and hippos. For at least a week the crocodiles spent their days on the top banks or in the forest whilst the hippos looked for eddies or the slowest running water.
The Ewaso Nyiro River in Samburu is now flowing despite the drought that was terrible with wildlife and livestock dying in large numbers. In October we received some rain and again in December and part of January. Samburu is green once again and the area is beginning to recover slowly.
Beautiful Kenya
The grassland has been the perfect grazing height for most of the plains game, growing a little longer towards the end of the month. Once the grass becomes too long, most grazers will move nearer to the river line where the hippos keep it nicely mown. This is for two reasons, it is preferred by the selective grazers and they are able to spot predators moving over the short grass.

Mt Kenya Climbing.
Mt Kenya Climbs are increasing with popularity as our outstanding Mt Kenya Guide Mr. Kenyabecomes better known by our clients. Symon Mutua is referred to in client comments. The toughest job for George and Symon was in preparing the Climb for the Fitness Centre of Karen Country Club in October.  They did a sterling job and ended up with a party of 17, plus porters and cooks, amounting to a party of 44!  So, you see, nothing is impossible.  They were all delighted with their Certificates of Achievement.

We can organize climbs at any time, for any number of people. Just contact us! We had a wonderful climb in March, and have another one scheduled in August.

August Climb - Thu 26th to Sun 29th Aug 2010; Naro-Moru-in Chogoria-out Route.
